Brockwell Park festivals are going ahead under a last-minute workaround, but legal pressure from campaigners means the future of large-scale events in London could see some sort of change next year.
Borough Market’s finally getting partial pedestrianisation. A long-overdue barrier will restrict traffic on Bedale Street during peak hours from next month, after years of safety warnings and hundreds of weekly near misses.
Eel Pie Island, semi-secret artists’ enclave on the river in Twickenham, opens its doors for two weekends this summer (28–29 June and 5–6 July), offering rare access to its studios, sculptures and art to buy.

🍽️ Permit Room - All-day bar-café, Portobello
From the team behind Dishoom — same Bombay soul, but looser round the edges. Breakfast kicks off with Aunty’s Masala Eggs and house chai. By lunch, it’s chaat, coconut Old Fashioneds and Chicken Pick-Me-Ups. The vibe? Local beers pouring, art on every wall and a resident DJ every Thursday.
🥐 E5 Bakehouse - Elite pastries, V&A East Storehouse
Art, bread, coffee. In that order, or reverse. East London’s cult bakery lands in a new home at the new V&A East Storehouse at Stratford Waterfront. Think house-milled sourdough, wild pastries, and small plates made with seasonal East End produce — all served in a gallery-meets-industrial space designed to be explored. This one’s made for quiet Saturdays, solo visits, and good conversations. Opens Friday 31 May.
🍸 Setlist - New riverside rooftop, Somerset House
A cultural terrace bar pairing good drinks with curated music and art. Brought to you by the team behind Frank’s in Peckham. Expect queues if the sun’s out, so book early to avoid disappointment.
🍽️ Norbert’s - Neighbourhood rotisserie done right, East Dulwich
Ex-Planque chef Jack Coghlan and hospitality heavyweight John Ogier (Marksman, Lasdun) bring a new rotisserie spot to Lordship Lane. Roasted meats, natural wine, proper comfort.
🍽️ Hello Jojo - Playful Asian fusion, Camberwell
A bright new opening on Rupert Street focused on feel-good, fast-ish fusion. Think noodle bowls, crispy rice and sustainable sourcing.
🎭 Mrs. Warren’s Profession - Garrick Theatre
Imelda Staunton and Bessie Carter star in this revival of George Bernard Shaw’s classic play, exploring themes of morality and societal expectations.
🍽️ Osteria Angelina - Italo-Japanese, Shoreditch
The team behind Dalston’s cult fusion spot Angelina are levelling up. Expect fresh pasta with a Japanese edge (rigatoni with kosho tomato, tagliolini mentaiko), plus big cuts grilled over binchotan: duck crown kabayaki, skate wing with sea urchin butter, aged porterhouse brushed with tare. Crudo’s on point too: hamachi, kombu-cured bream, bluefin with ponzu and rhubarb. The wine list leans deep Italian, sake comes courtesy of Masayo Nuttall and the back bar swings from grappa to Japanese whisky.
🍸 Parasol - 80s NYC disco underground bar, Dalston
Just launched last week above The Print House, this East London bar does sunset cocktails, eclectic DJs and a laid-back, open-air setting.

London today, Hammersmith Bridge

London truly peaks in the summer, there’s no city like it. It feels like the older we get the more fleeting this time of the year feels, but it also makes us ever more grateful for those days in the sunshine. It's also the best season for spontaneity because we don’t need to pencil in theatre shows or dinner dates weeks in advance to have a good time. A golden hour pint by the river with some good company feels like a warm hug and reminds us to savour the small things in life.
That being said, summer also is the season of the social calendar so we’re curating the best events where you can make the most of the city when she’s looking her absolute best.
